GOALS FOR MEL FOR KIDS
Revised 8/08 SR
In this class we teach databases that children can use themselves, with guidance and
instruction. We also point out databases that teachers, librarians, and parents can use to
find information for children, for curriculum development, and for professional development.
1. Learn how to access the Michigan eLibrary Databases through mel.org.
2. Learn how to search eLibrary Elementary for articles, pictures, and maps.
3. Learn how to find articles and other information in InfoTrac Kids InfoBits.
4. Learn how to search SIRS Discoverer for information, as well as access the Spotlight of the Month, Current Events section, and the Encyclopedia.
5. Learn how to find a magazine, newspaper article, or book resource in Infotrac’s Junior Edition.
6. Be aware of content in other databases that may be helpful for staff working with children, such as NoveList, LearningExpress Library, and What Do I Read Next?
7. Be aware of educators' information in MeL.
